Why perform a Health Check?
How confident are you that your investments in IT
infrastructure and applications are paying off, delivering
commercial benefits, competitive advantage and being managed
in line with your organisations risk appetite? If your
answer is less than positive, you are not alone. Too
many IT operations still remain a virtual black hole to many
executives - this is where we can help you gain insight into
IT provision, identify risks and recommend a prioritised
course of remedial actions.
It is extremely common for organisations experiencing
growth to discover their IT systems cannot keep pace and
are failing to support the organisations activities.
In many cases we see organisations that have grown and
matured, unfortunately their IT systems, processes and
procedures have not matured at the necessary rate,
leaving significant gaps that expose organisations to
unnecessary risks.
Derwen Consulting offers it's IT Health Check service
aimed at providing an organisation's executives with insight
into their IT operations, identifying unnecessary risks and
offering guidance and recommendations for remedial actions
to mitigate such risks.
We fully understand that carrying out such an exercise
can sometimes be seen as a 'threat' to internal and external
IT providers, however our approach is collaborative and we
will work in conjunction with incumbent providers sharing
our thoughts and views and working collaboratively to
achieve the desired results.
The starting point is a meeting with Directors/Executives
to gain an appreciation of specific concerns, current and
upcoming commercial demands, risk appetite and IT strategy
that should govern the IT services. At this time we
will identify risk areas and recommend target areas of the
highest potential risk to focus on for the Health Check.
The outcome is a proposal to the Board/Executives/Senior
Management, complete with target areas and cost estimates
for the IT Health Check.
Our Health Check process is based on our risk assessment
framework aligned with recognised best practices in Service
Management, Project Management and Software Development,
which we have developed specifically for this purpose.
As the target areas are reviewed, risks and mitigating
factors are recorded in the risk assessment templates.
This allows us to review the captured information and
jointly determine material risks to the organisation.
Based on the jointly agreed material risks, we will produce
a set of recommendations to mitigate and address them.
At this point we can either hand over this document to the
internal team or work together with them and external
service providers to move these risks in line with the
organisations risk appetite. |
